80s music tourbooks and books - Human League

Postby negative1 » Wed Oct 30, 2013 7:43 pm

Hi human league fans,

i have an 80s music tourbooks, and books blog up:
==========================================
http://80sbooksandtourbooks.wordpress.com/

we will feature many bands, simple minds,
big country so far.

i've put up some samples from the 'story of a band'
about the human league:
==========================================
Image

i have the whole book in PDF format now.

it was scanned at 300dpi, reduced 50%.
no contrast adjustments were done,
and it's a little bluish.

but its readable.

contact me for the link to the PDF and
password.

I note with interest the words on one of the sample pages of 'Story of a Band'...

If there's one thing the Human League not fear, it's their ability to stay in the top rank. In the words of their vocalist "In the long termso long as you are writing good songs, you've got it made. It doesn't matter what you look like, someone will want to hear them. I think that's really what it's all about.

I tried looking for that book about the Human League some years ago online but I couldn't find anyone selling it.

They used to pop up on Ebay all the time. If you don't have a copy it's certainly worth tracking one down. I think I have 4 copies in total. I got them for about 50p each about 20 years ago in a shop that was closing down. They had about 30 copies for sale and I still regret not buying them all. =D The 'Perfect Pop' book is more interesting though.

So worth having a look at then? I've PM'd negative1 as I certainly would like to read more than the sample pages on offer, my eyesight is pretty good as you can tell from my previous post but larger print would be welcome :)

I agree about 'Perfect Pop' a paperback that I used to have at one point... keep hoping it might crop up at the Oxfam bookshop but nothing doing so far. :/

Your reply beat my last one but thanks for answering, you read my mind!

Philip signed the cover of my copy of 'Perfect Pop' about 10 years ago and remarked that it was 'a great little book' and that he still has a copy of it in his attic somewhere. Still waiting for that Oakey autobiography though. ;)

It's about time someone did a new book about the League. I suppose the problem is that Philip won't cooperate and a book written without the League's help would be full of holes.

Eh....Electric Dreams should be coming out fairly soon I'd imagine. Can't understand why The League wouldn't be interview for the book though???

Maybe saving up the legit facts for a publication in which they would be the beneficiaries. THey may be be on the fence about whether to do a book or not, but any information they spill would not be new for something they might decide to eventually do.

I keep hoping Electric Dreams will come out but it seems to be forever delayed.

does anyone have a copy of 'perfect pop' for sale?

i've been looking for a copy.

or if someone wants to mail it to me (i will pay for shipping to US), i can scan
and digitize it to a PDF.

i've seen copies for sale, but they all seem to be very expensive (over $30)

Sorry Negative 1 but couldn't part with my copy. I still dive into it and read bits every now and again. You could easily read the entre book in a few hours but it's a little gem.

I have 1 copy of Perfect Pop and found a few copies of SOABCTHL. Loved reading PP back in the day...Fuelled my (then) "anti" H17 stance ... well more an anti Marsh/Ware stance...because it focused a lot on the split. Photos were crap in PP but fantastic in SOABCTHL.
Who knew 30 odd years later they would still be very much sought after!!

I think these old books are still sought after because there's nothing more current about the League, interviews apart and they're not always very revealing. This is why, I think, the Buckley book aroused so much interest, but the chances of that ever seeing the light of day seems a very forlorn hope now.

Yes, Buckley's book doesn't look like it's appearing. Although I did hear that he was expanding it.

I did wonder if Buckley or his publisher was holding out to see if there was any buzz about the band in 2018 for the 40th anniversary of Being Boiled which might produce more residual publicity for the book.

Possibly but I doubt it. He's given different dates from the start so it looks like 2018 was never his intention.

There were dates given for spring '15 or autumn '16. We will have to wait and see. I wouldn't hold my breath though

There are still some there on Amazon, the forum must have gone to sleep. I ordered one at £20-00, a bit pricey for a used paperback but not too unreasonable they said condition good. I'll report back on just how good.

Good find -1.
