December 2017

I think this is the first time I've started a monthly thread. Looking forward to hearing all about the Aussie tour :)

8 days until they reach Adelaide! Let's hope the weather will be kind while they are here! A few days ago it was mid 30's but since then been rainy and much cooler in the teens. As any of you Poms may know if you have any interest in the Cricket ... ;) you may be wishing for more rain :)

Here a couple more Philip Oakey interviews coming to light in advance of the Australian Tour...

I like Culture Club. I incline towards liking Boy George - Philip Oakey

What?

For years he’s been saying that ‘Boy George killed Pop Music’

And now he ‘inclines towards liking him’? I bet Stig is furious. =D

Personally I incline towards disliking George, I like the music but when he's interviewed he's so full of shit.

I was so excited to see Human League (and my favorite singer, Tiffany) on the beach at the Like Totally 80's Festival in May, even though the band hasn't confirmed it yet. But, it turns out May 12 is the one day in 2018 that I already have another commitment so I won't be able to go even if it really does happen.

It's my cousin's graduation and family reunion, and the reunion part was my idea so I don't think I can skip it.

I mentioned in the Aus tour thread how the kids and I were watching the Dome DVD last night. It's been probably 10+ years since I last watched it, but it brought back some amazing memories of those times, but especially from that night:

PO slipping over and then getting the words all wrong during Love Me Madly (you don't see the slip, but they did leave in when he said "Don't worry, they'll edit that bit out!");

PO talking about the Secrets Massive, asking Joe if he was a member "Don't think you are, are you Joe, though you come to quite a few?" and then producing the Secrets Massive Tour Programme. Remember that? Was it Will/PDC that produced it? And PO saying "Amazing... but we all want one!"

Them not finishing the gig with TIED, but instead with SOTC.

Looking back at it now versus the tour I've just seen and comparing the two, the music when they play live now seems to me to be so much better than it was back then. We all loved it and rightly so, but now it's different level I think.

Daniel thought it was very funny that his Dad was in the Secrets Massive, and as we watched it he was dancing around the living room singing along (he loves Tell Me When).

Such happy times and fantastic memories. I really miss those days on tour with loads of friends from on here!

Have a great Christmas, everyone!! :)

As I mentioned to JJ I also watched it a few days ago to show a friend who came with me to the Adelaide show (first time seeing the League) so I thought I'd show her the way it was in the past, a long long time ago....
I really miss the Secrets Massive from those years. Being able to be a part of it when i got the chance in person, if not from the other side of the world. That night was great. My cameo in Tell Me When (my right ear and eye at least!) Meeting the gang afterwards and getting in to meet our heroes and get photos with them. Still waiting for my next photo with Philip...sigh... =|
If my memory serves me right, Murfy drove me back to London that night. The generosity and friendship from you guys and girls over so many years will stay forever with me!
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas from sunny warm Adelaide! Christmas Day will be a beautiful 30C =D

Well a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone, I'm planning to watch the Dome DVD over Christmas as I haven't seen them live this year.

You're not wrong JJ that was a special night among many great League nights that we've all been lucky enough to share over the years!! I think as many of us were doing multiple shows each tour in those days there was such a great team spirit :)

That show is obviously memorable for me thanks to the sign, which I still have! And the fact that our seats were at the back but thanks to some non attendees and a helpful steward we were front row, before the first song ended!

Good times :)

Happy Xmas all x

Yes Galen, I had to explain to the kids what your sign was for (as they hadn't previously heard OMIMH).

Any League related learnings are worthwhile !

My son ignores all my HL stories despite my best efforts !!! He’s even seen them live and has Philip as a middle name and it hasn’t helped one bit!!
