Would love to have gone. I saw him a couple of times on the Dream Into Action tour in 1985.

Not only am I seeing HoJo on Friday night (as above) at a "proper" venue, but Mrs JJ just spotted in the local rag that he's playing at the (very) local sports club tomorrow night too!! :O Ticket duly purchased.

Saw him last Saturday here in Brisbane at the Tivoli (great venue), the show was awesome. I've seen him twice before, I'm not the world's biggest HoJo fan but this show was excellent.

I have never been to Beirut. Tonight I am in Bankstown to see HoJo, and I feel I will never need to go to Beirut having experienced Bankstown.

Absoluteky brilliant gig last night! Crowd up for it from the start. Tonight will be a shocker. Venue holds 400, only 100 tix sold, and all seated at tables. Bloody hell, in advance.

Blimey, what a strange gig last night. Rows of tables all the way up to the stage, no dance floor, and only around 100 tix sold beforehand. Walk-up was quite high, and there were a couple of hundred in there by showtime, but the decision had already been taken to truncate the set into a greatest hits one. That's fine by me as I'd seen the two-albums show twice, but it understandably pissed off the wife of a mate who had come up just for that one show and didn't get to see the full show, and at the end of the day that's how it has been advertised. Imagine if THL had a poorly-sold show on the Dare tour so decided not to play Do Or Die, Seconds, Darkness and I Am The Law.

As it happens the crowd was pretty good, HJ went down well, and there were a few people congregated to dance right at the corner of the stage. I asked him afterwards what he'd though of it, and he just laughed...but I know from the day before that he knew what to expect.

Tonight will be more of the same - very similar set-up.

JJ - we had a similar experience a couple of years ago with HoJo - seated at tables, while he played dancable electronic stuff. Just didn't work, while people were raving about the show in other cities where it was a "proper" standing venue. The time previous to that it was the same setup (seated) but he was doing acoustic piano + guitar only and that worked really well. The other night at the Tivoli was the first time we've seen him playing electronic stuff in a proper standing venue and it was excellent :-)

If anything it was worse. HJ was great, but just a small handful of people standing at the back and sides dancing, tables up to the stage. Just like having a gig in your living room I guess, with some enthusiastically polite clapping and a low stage.

If he comes here again, and I think he will, he will do just one gig in Sydney at a bigger place.

A bit of info if you're into him: his next project will be a live-only one. The plan is to write it, perform it live, but not release it as a studio album as such. There might be a live release.
