I was surprised to hear a last minute gig for reformed 'Haircut 100' http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/live_reviews/article6963256.ece

'Pelican West' is one of my favourite albums! :)

I've just realised how long it's been since I checked in here (hopefully that will change once the new album surfaces and the League get out on the road again!) so I feel a little bit naughty by making my first return post a shameless plug for my own band - but I feel I can justify it a little by pointing out that we have been known to include the Human League in our set!

Edinburgh is a long way to come for most of you but if you are in the vicinity, perhaps I can tempt you to join in some good old fashioned eighties synth pop fun. Our website has some video from our last show if you want to check us out.

Cheers

Steve

But there is a guitar on that flyer. Guitars to League fans are like garlic to vampires.

(Good luck with the night though)

Great website Steve but it's a shame we can't hear any tracks. Great support too from AA.

Ah - you need to check out the video (either on the media page or on YouTube, there's seven songs included there. I'm still in two minds as to whether offering separate audio is a good idea, as a well produced video clip is going to do a much better job of selling the overall package with all the lights, videos and everything. But you've reminded me I put an "Audio - coming soon" link there when I originally built the page - perhaps I should remove that to avoid confusion.

Yes, having Analog Angel support is a real bonus and I really hope people make the effort to get there in time to see them, as they won't be disappointed!

But doesn't The Lebenon have guitars, oh and Fascination, aaand One Man???
It was only the early League stuff that never had any guitars at all.

Alright I know that Phil thinks that the guitars on Hysteria was a mistake, but I feel that it would only be just drums and guitars that would be a mistake for the League. Just wouldn't fit in with their style.

Texan sugar-coated synthpop band Hyperbubble play Edinburgh tonight and Glasgow tomorrow. I bought their debut album Candy Apple Daydreams the other day and have been playing it loads - it's really good!

lol fair enough!

They remind me a lot of that other American sweetie band, Freezepop - also perhaps loved/meh by synthpop fans.

I have I missed something? No one has mentioned Glastonbury, ok I know it has a lot of thrash metal but I thought Groove Armada and Faithless were pretty good.

Party Fears Three (the eighties covers/tribute band I am involved with) are hosting a new live / 80's electronica club night next month on Saturday 19th February at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh.

Live-wise, there will be two sets from us and we've been working on some new tracks to debut at this show, including a new Human League track which vocally is probably one of the more challenging ones out there (and segued with something you almost certainly won't be expecting) plus a song that legend has it a lot of people mistake for being The Human League. Along with plenty others from the usual suspects - Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Numan, Ultravox and so on.

We are also pleased to have on board a special guest DJ on the night in the form of Norman Brown, a leading club DJ in Edinburgh for last 15 years known to many as the face of Friday nights at the Citrus Club, one of the UK's best retro nights. Norman and myself will be DJing between sets and right through until 1.00AM with a selection of fine tracks from right across the genre.

Details on our website www.partyfearsthree.co.uk.

Oh Pauline! One of these days we'll pick a date you can make! It's a shame too, as I know you of all people would appreciate the special John Barry tribute we're putting together for this one... ;-)
