One wag from our jolly group tried to convince me that he'd died. I didn't fall for it :D

Thanks to a friend of mine winning a couple of tickets through a radio competition I was at this concert. There were several support acts on the bill none of whom I had heard of so I turned up at 7pm on a glorious day of sunshine. The best since early June in fact. The promoters of this event also organise Electric Picnic so it had the same vibe but on a much smaller scale.

There was a diverse age range of people and quite a lot of teenagers/early 20s dance brigade. It definitely had the last big party of the Summer feel to the day.

Kraftwerk took to the stage at 9pm and Florian has been replaced with a nu very young, tall replacement. He looked as though he could still be in his 20s! A toddler in Kraftwerk age range. He mouthed a lot of the lyrics throughout especially during Numbers. Otherwise it was business as usual. The setlist was in a different sequence to the 2004 world tour although they did open with The Man Machine. Planet of Visions was slightly different. There were technical problems at the start and I could clearly see the guys on the mixing desk, to the right of the stage, doing everything they could as quickly as they could to sort things out. Lots of sideward glances from all 4 members as the problems were quickly sorted.

At the end of the first part of the performance the curtains didn't close fully. Ralf and the nu guy were unaffected but Fritz and Henning stood patiently for a few minutes before walking off. A huge round of applause greeted the curtains final closure as a roadie climbed to the top of the trussing to solve the problem about 40 feet above the stage! It was very funny, totally unKraftwerk but just added to the joyous atmosphere.

The higlight of the night was the inclusion of Showroom Dummies which I hadn't heard live before. Sublime.

The sound was very powerful from The Robots to the end. Computer Love was also played and some of the projections were slightly different as I recall. There were a lot of annoying assholes at one stage in the crowd but my friend Eamonn and I took no crap and got rid of them. Other than that the atmosphere was excellent and I'm delighted to have seen them once again. It was strange that Florian was not on stage. Perhaps KWD knows more about this. Apparently they were off to Krakow in Poland to play 3 dates there. No UK dates for 08 to the best of my knowledge.

New material? Nah, it's just a money spinner gig.

I've booked my ticket though, cheers for the heads up! :)

Looks as though they're performing with Steve Reich, who I like. Have they done that live before? It must have passed me by if they have...

Someone has posted on the DM forum about them doing 8 consecutive nights at MoMA, doing each album in turn.

Bloody hell, I'd love to see that, and I hereby nominate Kraftwerkdave (for obvious reasons!) to keep us all fully up to speed and to let me know the instant they announce this for Orstralia! ;)

Aye, it's 2 tickets per person for the whole run, not per gig. I'm nagging Luni to make the trip as well ;-)

How are they gonna manage that though?? Are you going to have to show photo ID at the gigs or something?

Pardon me jipsi01 but could you translate into more readable English. I think you actually wrote something interesting therein, so to speak.

Just Googled the first line - it's just a copy-paste from various sites i.e. this one: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2011/08/early-kraftwerk-live.html

So in short - it's spam - unless the writer appears again, I'll delete the post - just ignore it for now.

Kraftwerk have announced 8 shows in London next February at the Tate Modern, to play all their albums chronologically. Gutted to miss them!

Oh bugger! Would love to attend the London gigs, but just too expensive to take out 8 days the calender. Hope they do this in Denmark soon!
