Yazoo

Postby JJ » Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:13 am

They are my favourite band of all time (for those of you that I haven't already bored silly with that statement!)

Anyway, apparently there's a slim chance of something happening with them. Alison has been reported as saying she'd love to revisit the Yazoo songs, but that it wouldn't be the same without Vince's electronics. I would gladly give up just about every single gig I've ever been to to just see Yazoo even once!
Well who's that shouting? John, ex-Moderator - all he ever gives us is pain!

Yazoo were one of the finest electronic bands ever (when are Mute going to remaster their back cat??).
I hope by 'revisit' Alison doesn't mean jazz versions with conventional instruments ;)

With Erasure's career almost completely dead, I wouldn't rule out a Yazoo reunion.
Both Alison and Vince would be daft not to consider it.

She doesn't - she said it would need to be with Vince.

It's hardly "dead" Rob. They have just released a new album (their 3rd in 3 years), in September they have a full UK tour (more or less sold out) culminating at the Royal Albert Hall, a US tour, and some dates in Europe.

If that is "almost completely dead" how would you describe The Human League's career? ;)

Still, Rob has a point - they don't progress in any way - where can they go from where they are now? Would be absolutely fantastic, if they did something again, but maaan, the expectations would be sky high!

Maybe but it's another album met with little or no enthusiasm.
They still have a few fans but the band are creatively dead - just my opinion of course but I can't get excited by them and have to agree with Stig on this one.

Bring back Yazoo :)

Don't get me wrong - I would sacrifice Erasure to bring back Yazoo any day of the week. But their "few" fans still out just as big venues as THL play.

And one other thing - at least they continue to release new material! Whether people that aren't really fans like it or not isn't particularly relevant, because it's not like they need the money.

My personal opinion re: Erasure is the freshness has gone out of their music, which is pretty understandable having been together for 20 odd years. I think it's great that they still have a fan-base and can do gigs such as the Albert Hall, it's just that when a new Erasure album is announced, it doesn't fill me with any particular excitement or anticipation. I've seen them live several times, was at the Brighton Dome when they filmed The Circus live video and loved the first 4 albums, but IMO now would be a good time for Vince to push himself and link up with another singer (preferably Alison!) even if it was just for a one-off album project. PS: I'll be playing some Yazoo tracks when I DJ at The Electronically Yours bash later this year :)

Yeah I'm also a big fan of Yazoo, that excellent blending of Alison's vocals and Vince's synths, the perfect match.

If you've not discovered them yet I wholeheartedly recommend you check out...

Never has 'best of' been so accurately used for a CD!

Have always liked the combination of Alison's incredible voice (probably the best in the business, although Beverley Knight runs her close) with the electronics. Love their stuff, would be very interested in a reunion.

There was an interview with Vince in the Notts Evening Post last Friday, where I picked up on one paragraph in particular...:

Do you ever hear other singers and feel tempted to work with them, or is it a pure monogamous loyalty to Andy?

"It is a monogamous loyalty. I do work on other stuff, though. I do bits and pieces with Martyn Ware [Heaven 17] sometimes, on various projects. Not making pop records, but making music for exhibitions and stuff. I just did some music for a cartoon here in the States. So, little bits and pieces - but not actually working with another singer and making an album, no."

Bang goes the Yazoo reunion - bah humbug :(

Just heard "Yazoo - Don`t Go (Bailey and Rosko Mix)" , much much more than a fanboy mix , I `likes` it me , probably from the accapella availble .

Didn't want to start a brand new thread so thought I'd stick it in here.

New Alison Moyet album 'The Turn' is being released within the next couple of weeks. She is previewing 4 tracks from the album on her myspace page from midnight tonight.

Not too sure that I like this cover to be honest. It kinda looks like someone has been playing in the make up box too much.
