I'm a firm believer that everyone should experience an Erasure gig at least once in their lives. It's always a joyous experience. You'd be mad to miss it.

I'm going to my first Erasure gig in 17 years (!) as they play my hometown Arhus in December. They don't really float my boat with their live performances these days, but I couldn't resist them playing in my back garden. Have foound a new interest in Vince Clarke after the Yazoo reunion, the VCMG project, Snowglobe and meeting him before his DJ gig in Arhus last year, top man!

They are one band who even if I didn't like the album they were flogging at the time I would still go see them live as they are great, even other peoples songs and union street tours were great.
Not going this time as am in NY.
Ordered the signed box set of violet flame, hoping it's better than the single elevation which I think is horrible.

Elevation is crap. Hoping that the album is better.

It does doesn't it. Much better than the Christmas thingy.
Glad to say I'll be seeing them at the end of the year.

I've been listening to the album stream on the Gay Tiimes site for the last 3 days and I reckon it's their best album since Chorus. Fantastic production, great songs and dancable as hell.

Oh, and from what I've heard of the current tour, Vince has finally reprogrammed and updated much of the older stuff without ruining it and there are a couple of gems not done since 1992.

If you're in two minds about buying 'The Violet Flame' then you'd be out of your mind not to. It's gooooood! =D

In two minds about it,got the signed box set.
It's half typical catchy bouncy erasure and the other half typical mid tempo erasure.had high hopes being produced by RX.
It's always hard to compare but for me they have been patchy from cowboy onwards.
Of the recent bunch I would only rate Nightbird anywhere near their best work.
Just my opinion and I always have a soft spot for them.

I pretty much agree with you re Nightbird, octopus. I thought it was a genuine back to their best album. Union Street in particular was just so bad, I doubt I will ever listen to it again. And OPS was almist as bad too.

I've been listening to it more and it reminds me of Andy's first solo effort more than anything.

I've only listened to it once so far, and I'm pretty underwhelmed, if I'm honest. Maybe it'll be a grower like Cowboy or Loveboat. Again I agree with octopus in that it reminds me of AB's Electric Blue album, but not as good. Yet...

Have to say it's better than I expected - drop two of the tracks and add the non-christmas ones from the EP they previously released, and you have one hell of a great Erasure album.

I haven't heard the new album yet, which shows how little interest I have in Erasure these days. I did notice on the tracklist for the new single Reason that John Van Ahlen did a Parralox remix. For those that remember John being a very active member of the HL online community (and showing great knowledge of electronic music in generel) in the earlier days of the web but slowly taking less part as his music career took up most of his time, that is quite an achievement to end up on an offical Erasure release. He must be thrilled!

John is supporting erasure later on in the year. Unfortunately not the night I am going.

I'm really liking and enjoying 'The Violet Flame' it's very Erasure, and the production is sleek...a very good album.
I ordered the double vinyl as well, beautiful :-)

These days we get to know how many singles will be released from an Erasure LP before they even announce them as they do slip cases to hold 'all three singles'
I've also been impressed with the single choices and remixes...even though i would have chosen differently.

I am not impressed however with the cheapness of the formats and pressings...talk about budget. =( Erasure AND their buyers deserve better quality.
