well... it's not bad, but it's not really what i was hoping for either. granted i'm at work (front desk) and i skimmed through a lot of the tracks.

you get glimpses here and there of old school OMD, but a lot of this reminds me of 'sugar tax' and 'liberator'.

i'll give it a proper listen when i get home, and have no distractions around me.

so far i would say 'new babies, new toys' is the best track off the album.

'pulse' sounds like it was a atomic kitten reject, lol!

Let's bear in mind this is *almost* another Andy McCluskey solo album with fairly limited contributions from Paul Humphreys, so likenesses with Sugar TAx and Liberator (and Atoci Kitten!) are fairly inevitable.

That said, I'm really looking forward to it as an OMD fan since 30 years (gulp) .. I've stuck with them (him) through thick and thin!

MMM.. PLEASE!
Actually I find SMS the most irritating track on the album, which is on the whole much better than this rather tacky song. Let's hope some of the remixes make it a bit more interesting.

thanks TCB

I haven't listened to this one yet, but I can't say I was that impressed by the others I posted. I hear the album has much better songs on it, and they're releasing the naffest songs as singles, probably in a bid to have a hit. I blame the Atomic Kitten experience. :D

A religious nut over at the OMD Forum went completely balistic over the Sister Mary video, I thought the days of a pop video shocking anyone was long gone, but nice to know it can still happen :)

Just noticed this after reading Orac's link. Please. God. No

'It's funny how things go," says Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark's Andy McCluskey, reflecting on the reunited band's successful recent tour. "You're sitting in a hotel bar, luxuriating in the fact that you're still able to go out and make intellectual pop music, and Louis Walsh comes along and says, 'Please will you write me a Eurovision hit for Jedward?'" One of McCluskey's eyebrows shoots north; he relishes a good anecdote. "That really happened to me yesterday."

Ha! HA! I think it might be quite interesting .. a bit of Dazzle Ships in Eurovision? ! .. although it'll probably be more "Whole Again" than "Genetic Engineering" I suspect.

Yes isn't it? I must thank stephanie on the OMD forum for the pics BTW.

It sort of reminds me of the first 7" singles I was buying in 79/80-ish. Squeeze "Cool for Cats" on pink vinyly .. mmmmmmm

I'm really wanting to hear the new album. All I've got is 'The Very Best Of' (heard more though!) and some singles. Every track on that CD is good, though some of it is rather unoriginal. Some are very nostalgic for me.

They did a good Radio 2 In Concert performance last week..even 'over-running' their one hour and postponing the news in the process just so they could get 'Electricty' in!

Still available for listening here:

and yes, History of Modern has already turned into a 'classic' OMD album!
