Ive re-read my post and perhaps I didnt put it very well , I meant to contemporize their own sound not to re-imagine themselves 100% in a new century and imo its the audience who are stuck in the 80s , these arent the record buyers , they are middle aged people , to not even attempt to contemporize themselves to try to bring in new fans is a folly imo .

But to quantify my fuller opinion , I dont think they will sell anymore at all (neither will HL) than to a percentage of their fanbase , I feel their time (for mass unit shifting) is past , shifting any units would be hard enough anyway (due to marketing costs) , shifting them in the middle of a quantum drop in record sales / filesharing will be a um..."challenge" .

Just had a look over on their website and good to hear that the forthcoming album has a title - 'The History of Modern' - and provisionally is hoped for in late summer.

Shame Human League can't be as definite about their forthcoming material!

Yes they keep giving news about what they're doing and how work is progressing .. but hey have a totally different approach to their fans (and the web) compared to the League.

Quote from Mark "I wanted to play being boiled to heal the apparent bad feeling between THL fans and OMD fans "

Dunno where that came from ??????

I'm looking forward to hearing OMD's new album and tour later on in the year .......
Wish I could also say the same about THL ........... let me say that another way round..... I'm hoping to hear about THL's album and tour THIS YEAR

Some nice chap on the OMD forum has uploaded both the program and the new album track:

http://www.omd.uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6592&start=30

It's not a bad song, very OMD.

i enjoyed everything up to and including 'the pacific age'. 'architecture & morality' and 'dazzle ships' being my favs. 'sugar tax' and 'liberator' were both pretty blah in my opinion and i didn't even bother with 'universal'.

Someone I vaguely know heard the new OMD album this evening, and saw the Peter Saville artwork for it. I've no idea what they thought of the album yet, but the artwork was apparently delivered with an 80-page essay about it...!

I'm a fan but i know they'll never beat the first three albums.
I don't even have high hopes for this new one.

Well that wouldn't be hard as that is their (McCluskey's) last half-decent album. I think fans were hoping for a more Arch & Moral sound, but it doesn't seem that way. It all sounds a bit 'Liberator'-y to me...

I like the way that OMD keep their fans informed about how work on new material is coming. Just got an email saying that the new album 'History of Modern' artwork (IMO rather bland I thought) is now previewed on their site and I also like the regular blog feature. :)

It's heartwarming to find and band embracing the internet to the extent that OMD are... if only 'The Human League' go also be so enthused! :/

well Ok..but it is a little frustrating. Mind you, OMD are pretty much an exception in this case.

yes, tempted but 50 quid is a bit steep even for a life-long fan.

Video for If You Want It also up .. very Pet Shop Boys-y visuals, the song is a bit OTT but amazingly catchy.
