Great to see a club like Huddersfield get into the premier league. The BBC reported this as "Huddersfield get back into the premier league after an absence of forty five years". Someone should tell their young journalists that the premier league hasn't been around that long.

Sure. But it pisses me off that some people seem to think football prior to the Premier League existing can just be dismissed / forgotten. Football is MUCH older and MUCH more important than just the Premier League.

The premier league is just another example of the commercialisation of football. Many people seem to have forgotten it is a sport and not simply a way of making money. I'm sure that this is at the root of a great deal of the unsporting behaviour currently see in football: diving in the penalty area, pretending to be badly hurt after a foul tackle, trying to wind up an opponent of the ball, etcetera. There rewards of success are so big players are tempted into unsporting actions and I'm not sure that they aren't encouraged to do this by certain managers. This is also reflected in other sports where performance enhancing drugs are used.

And it goes down right the way through the game: monkey see, monkey do.
I saw a young coach (19 years old) at our club training 9 year olds. He was saying to them "If anyone even touches you in the penalty area, go down and you might get a penalty." Disgraceful.

That's terrible the children will come to think of this as acceptable. I'm not sure what the answer is, maybe have all penalty and potential penalty incidents review by a refereeing panel using video evidence and long bans for players deemed guilty of diving and other faking. That might work, of course managers will be up in arms about it.

Good to hear his first interview today... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SJSqxz6O4o

Speaks clearer and is obviously happy to be hear and grasp this fantastic opportunity. Only about six weeks now until the new Premier League season and that first match here at St Marys against Swansea to find out just what impact Pellegrino will make on the Saints!

First day of the season's always special Pauline, especially after a promotion. Just walking to the top of the stand seeing that beautiful lush green carpet always brought (still brings) an emotional lump to my throat. And having gone up you get that whole 'it's great to be playing better teams...but how will we do against them?' conundrum. Bloody hell I miss it!!

Great to start with a win, P! Bet you thought you could do with grabbing a second though...

My own season has finished with a whimper. We came 2nd, only losing 1 game all season, to earn our place in the championship play offs (a round robin where the top 4 play off to decide whi gets inti the Final.) But we've managed to lose the first 2 games so we're out already with a game still to play.

Yeah great win for The Blades!! We also beat Stoke in the friendlies. I'm a bit blown away by how much we've stepped up a gear- and judging by yesterday, we'll have to!!! Tough but exciting game :-)

Great result Pauline, it's important to get off to a good start when you go up. One of Bristol Rovers failings over the years has been making a poor start after promotion, then they struggle and end up in a relegation battle.

Tonight marks the start of 9 months of either staying up late, or going to bed early then getting up in the middle of the night. The 3pm UK kick-offs are at midnight here while we're on winter time, but when both our clocks change, they're at 2am. So 9 months of shit sleep at the weekend.

But I still can't wait. :)

My Over 45s team won our last game of the season 1-0 today, despite having 3 men sent off and playing the team that finished top! :)

First one was because an opposition player claimed our bloke spat at him. He didn't but the ref still sent him off.

Second was for a second booking. This one was the only red card that was correct.

Third was our GK. When we were down to 9 we conceded a penalty and the GK was booked for dissent but then pulled off a fabulous save. Then near the end we got a goal kick which one of our defenders was taking. The wind blew the ball out of the 6 yard box so the GK went and picked it up to put it back in the 6 yard box where it has to be for a goal kick. But the ref thought he was time wasting so showed him a second yellow, which was ridiculous, because if we'd taken the kick from outside the 6 yard box it would have actually taken more time to get the ball back and retake it.

We were beat 1-0 by Middlesborough, which given how good they are etc etc, was fine by me. But we were cheated out of an equalizer with an *offside* claim. Absolute outrage.

I wouldn't be so sure Danny. We don't have the players capable of playing de Boer's preferred system, and I think Liverpool will absolutely take us apart, especially as Zaha may now be injured too (had his leg in a brace after the game.)
