Duran Duran

Surprised there hasn't been any talk about Duran Duran recently...

They kicked off yesterday afternoons 'Diana' charity gig, apparently... didn't watch it myself, over six hours is way too long IMO. Heard that they did 'Sunrise', 'Wild Boys' and... of course 'Rio'. Seen a few photos and clips from their performance, Nick and Simon still look great for their age.

Apparently they are taking part in next Saturday's 'Live Earth UK' before getting back to work on the new album out in November under the intriguing title of 'Red Carpet Massacre'. Their website http://www.duranduran.com mentions possible track titles of...

Nite Runner (co-written with and featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland)
- Skin Divers (featuring Timbaland)
- Red Carpet Massacre
- Box Full o' Honey
- Last Man Standing
- The Valley
- Falling Down (co written with Justin Timberlake)

Although IMO 'Astronaut' wasn't totally disappointing hope that this new album will be even greater!

Thankfully a mate of mines texted me to tell me they were about to come on yesterday !! Great opening for the gig, don't know anything about the new guitarist yet, but he fitted in ok IMHO. My alltime fave band, luv em !!! :D

Then i had to suffer hours of nonsense whilst waiting on Take That.......

Coming back to the library copy of 'Notorious', the unauthorised hardback biography of Duran Duran written by Steve Malins that I'm reading at the moment I was amused by the following bit of wit from Nick Rhodes. He says on page 63

'See when we started we were just five men in a boat rowing out to sea but Spandau got a motorboat and roared past us out into the middle. Now they've run out of petrol and we've got our oars, we're rowing past them all and they're just sinking!'

Duran's sound yesterday at Live Earth was terrible. Not sure if it was on the TV but we got to hear I Wanna Take You Higher!!

I thought they were okay. I thought Simon should have worn something nicer, more colorful. Better than Live Aid in 1985 when his voice cracked and broke glass in a 1000 mile radius!

An opportunity to rant about Live Earth-goodie!

I caught a tiny bit of it last night, and was so..annoyed to see the Pussycat Dolls on there. This is a concert to raise awareness of what's happening to our planet, and THAT band were there talking about how important it is to save electricity and keep everything beautiful.
The Pussycat Dolls have no thoughts about the planet! Of course I don't know them, they could be avid recyclers, but they write their songs about weath and materialism, they've been flown in from the US to lecture us about the planet, they're a classic example as advertising women as toys...they probably use enough hair products to CREATE global warming. And they're talking to us about how it's our responsibility?
I was so angry when I saw them flicking their hair at the concert! Garrr!

Somehow the Pussycat Dolls rather sums up the absurd nature of the Live Earth show to me. The notion of having a mega-concert tied to global warming activism. Strikes me as pompous and phony. But, hey, at least it was an excuse to have music!

You mean like this...

Funny I kept expecting it to develop further, pleasing enough as 'background music' but IMO won't be a single release!

Yeah, but I didn't want to get banned again by the spambot! That's what happened when I first tried to post the link. Wasn't up for round 2.

the new duran material is pretty bad - nite runner is intolerable and falling down isn't much better.

Wasn't crazy about the new Duran material at first but as time has gone on I'm really starting to appreciate both Nite Runner and Falling Down. Much better than the majority of Astronaut anyway. Looking forward to the release of the album now.

BTW, I just bought "Falling Down." It's not awful, but it is unremarkable @ first listen. Kinda blah.

I still think their best material was their first and second album - from there on, it went down hill - and it seems they've hit rock bottom, with involving the Jam & Lewis of this century; namely Timbaland & Timberland.

Looking forward to the unrated video, though! :D

Timbaland & Timberland - not good or merely over-rated?

yes - both: same shit from Timbaland again and again, and same formula for Justin I-wanna-sound-like-Michael-Jackson Timberland.

Seems like a desperate move for DD.
